Town Congratulates Foster Parents of the Year

The Town of Flower Mound would like to congratulate residents Burt and Nellie Searles for recently being named the Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards’ “Foster Parents of the Year.” The Searles were honored by the organization at an awards ceremony and reception last week in Austin.
The Searles have been licensed foster parents in Denton County since 1989 and have fostered more than 70 children. The couple currently cares for children with special medical needs. One child with extensive brain damage lived for 12 years in their care, despite a life expectancy at birth of only a few months.
“I am very proud and honored to call the Searles neighbors and friends,” said Flower Mound Mayor Jody Smith. “Their tireless dedication and commitment to helping children in need is heartwarming and admirable. Caring residents like the Searles are what help make Flower Mound such a wonderful community.”
The Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards is a statewide nonprofit organization that represents over 200 county child welfare boards and works with other agencies and organizations to develop resources, programs, and strategies to enhance services to vulnerable children and families and to promote prevention of child abuse and neglect.
