COOL SHADE FOR THIRD GRADE
Cool Shade for Third Grade is a conservation and education program started in 2004 by the Texas Cooperative Extension (TCE) in partnership with Denton County Soil and Water Conservation District (DCSWCD). In 2007, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) joined TCE and DCSWCD and expanded Cool Shade for Third Grade. This strengthened the conservation message of water quality as it relates to Watershed Protection.
This year, volunteers will distribute over 3,000 trees to the third graders in our County. This includes the Lewisville , Pilot Pointe , Ponder , Aubrey , Argyle , Krum , and Sanger ISD.
The trees will be delivered by the Denton County Master Gardeners and Denton County Master Naturalists. A short presentation about conservation and the role trees play on our planet will precede handing them out. Several species are used in this project to encourage diversity in our landscape. We hope that children can start to learn and care about their environment through hands on experience by planting trees . We believe that if people take a positive part in helping the environment, all living things will benefit.
